Our work

A diversified approach to development

1. Agriculture

2004/2021 — Observation, research, ecological focus

  • 2004 — Commissioned an agro-ecological study: "Agro-ecological practices for sustainable agriculture in Haiti's Central Plateau" (Nathan Mc Clintock, Ph.D.).
  • 2008–2013 — Water management, protection of arable land and agronomic support: building cisterns, a dozen ravine check-dams (mini dams), and funding a resident agronomist for 13 months.
  • 2012 — AgroParisTech: "Agrarian survey of the Epin locality" — Ariane DEGROOTE and Adeline BOUVARD, dissertation for the Agronomy Engineering degree.
  • 2020/2021 — Ecological school garden: supported by the Collectif Haïti de France (CHF) and inspired by the Banyen ecological market-gardening centre, the La Pléiade school garden was launched to enrich canteen meals.

2. Construction

  • 75 traditional Creole homes rebuilt after the 2010 earthquake — a project supported by the Fondation de France.
  • Palmary community centre funded by individual donors.
  • Kay Zanmi under construction.

3. Land tenure security

Work rewarded with the City of Paris "Pro Bono" Prize in 2014: 80 owners of individual plots of land received an official, certified land title.

4. Education

2004 to today — Ongoing support to three Central Plateau schools:

  • La Pléiade in Cange, founded by Pastor Lénéus JOSEPH (1,300 pupils)
  • La Main Divine in Sylguerre, founded by Me Jean Robert SÉJOUR
  • La Nouvelle Orientation, where a new computer room is nearing completion

2,400 pupils from kindergarten to the baccalaureate are welcomed and prepared for official examinations.

5. Training

ZLP funds study scholarships for young Haitians from the region, in particular students at UDERS (University of Hinche).

In return, these scholarship holders take part in health-prevention work for the community.

Teacher-training programmes have also been organised since 2003, with the support of GREF.

6. School canteen

Inherited from the "Lavi Nouvo" campaign, the canteen programme supports schooling at La Pléiade, with meals enriched by the school's ecological garden. At the start of the 2025 school year, 1,000 pupils are enrolled — that is nearly 1,000 meals served every day (budget: €13,000/year).

7. Digital & computing

Long a goal, access to digital tools has become a reality in our schools, powered by solar energy.

  • La Main Divine — the first local experience teaching computing: 31 pupils (Years 6 to 9) trained on 12 computers powered by solar panels.
  • La Nouvelle Orientation — construction of a new computer room, finishing touches underway.

Teaching is delivered by two teachers — a decisive step in supporting Haiti into the 21st century.

8. Economic autonomy

To create jobs and strengthen the autonomy of communities, ZLP has supported the creation of two local businesses (2021–2022):

  • Christo-Formidable (Christaniel Jean Louis) — drinking-water distribution, with the purchase of a delivery vehicle in 2025.
  • Zafe Evolysion (Wesnel Joseph), in Boucan Carré — tree nurseries and an orchard (limes, papayas, plantains) with a solar-powered pumping unit to fight drought.
